Yesterday morning, the BVFD felt the tragic loss of another fire service brother. The sad news spread quickly of former BVFD Firefighter Keith T. Long suffering an on-duty death while serving the DC Fire and EMS Department.
Keith was a BVFD Member from November 2, 2003 through May 2, 2017. He was a highly motivated and skilled firefighter who enjoyed staffing our Rescue Squad and Ladder Truck. For fourteen years, he took pride in supporting the BVFD, and continued to offer encouragement to our Officers and Members over the past nine years.
Keith was hired by the DC Fire Department in 1988, first in the Emergency Ambulance Bureau, then as a Firefighter in 2001. He earned his Paramedic status and maintained it throughout his distinguished career. He rose to the rank of Battalion Chief and was currently assigned to the Safety Office.
Keith also valued education and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Administration from the University of the District of Columbia, along with a degree in Fire Science.
He truly dedicated his entire life to the Fire Service, where he’s known for his pride and passion for service. He impacted so many lives as a first responder and influenced so many first responders as a mentor and role model.
The BVFD will share details on the arrangements once plans are set. For now, please hold his family close and honor his legacy by looking out for one another and serving with pride and passion.
You will be deeply missed, my friend.
